Brasília – The BCB will launch, in August this year, two celebrative coins to honor the delivery of the Olympic Flag to Brazil. This launch is a result of the cooperative job among the BCB, Casa da Moeda (Brazilian Mint) and the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee.
A R$1 special bimetallic coin will be launched, bringing at the front, in the silver core, the title “Brasil” with the script logo of the Rio 2016 Games and, in the center, the Olympic Flag. In the golden ring there are the titles “Entrega da Bandeira Olímpica” (Delivery of the Olympic Flag) and “Londres 2012-Rio 2016” (London 2012-Rio 2016). Out of the 2,016,000 coins that will be produced, a part of them will be traded in special packages for collectors and the rest will be put into circulation through the banking system.
A celebrative coin, in silver, will also be produced, with face value of R$5, and initial issuance of 5 thousand pieces. At the front, the olympic flag occupies the center of the composition, which is complete with the title “Entrega da Bandeira Olímpica” (Delivery of the Olympic Flag) and the script logo of the Rio 2016 Games. At the back, it bears highlighting the illustration allusive to two icons of the olympic cities: the Bridge Tower, representing London, and the ‘Cristo Redentor’ (Christ the Redeemer), representing the city of Rio de Janeiro. The composition is complete with the face value and the title “Londres 2012-Rio 2016” (London 2012-Rio 2016) and “Brasil”.
